Fourth Sunday of Lent
Eph 2:4-10

Brothers and sisters:
God, who is rich in mercy,
because of the great love he had for us,
even when we were dead in our transgressions,
brought us to life with Christ — by grace you have been saved —,
raised us up with him,

and seated us with him in the heavens in Christ Jesus,
that in the ages to come
He might show the immeasurable riches of his grace
in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
For by grace you have been saved through faith,
and this is not from you; it is the gift of God;
it is not from works, so no one may boast.
For we are his handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for the good works
that God has prepared in advance,
that we should live in them.

“Have no fear of moving into the unknown. Simply step out fearlessly
knowing that I am with you, therefore no harm can befall you; all is very,
very well. Do this in complete faith and confidence.”-
Pope John Paul II

RESTORING HOPE, DIGNITY AND FAITH
"We see clear signs of a disturbing breakdown in the very foundations of society: signs of alienation,
anger and polarization on the part of many of our contemporaries; increased violence; a weakening
of the moral sense; a coarsening of social relations; and a growing forgetfulness of God,"
- Pope Benedict XVI at his homily in Washington, DC mass
1.  He brought a certain closure to the sex abuse scandal that has shaken the church
2.  He set a moral challenge to the wider US culture on issues ranging from economic justice to abortion
3.  He issued a firm appeal to "set aside all anger" and unite to effectively evangelize the society
